AC warranty guide
Trane AC Warranty: What’s Covered and How to Check Yours
On the Trane outdoor models its current warranty lists (such as the 4TTR, 4TTX and 5TTV), made on or after March 1, 2024, parts, the outdoor coil and the compressor are covered for 5 years, or 10 years if the unit is registered online within 60 days (12 years on the compressor for models such as the 4TTX and 5TTV). For Florida residents, the warranty says that beginning July 1, 2024, not registering doesn’t reduce warranty rights or shorten the warranty.

How to check yours
Have the model number, serial number and installation date ready, then look the unit up with Trane.
The “Look up a Trane warranty” button on this page opens Trane’s own online warranty lookup. It asks for the serial number, with your last name optional, but you need your last name for a full warranty certificate.

Trane says the serial number is on the product itself or listed on your invoice.

Have the installer’s invoice ready: coverage starts when installation and start-up are complete and recorded on it (the closing date for a newly built home), and if the invoice has no date it starts 60 days after the factory manufacture date.
For warranty service, contact your Trane dealer: the dealer diagnoses the problem and submits the claim through a parts supplier. Claims must be filed within 90 days of the failure.

Registration and transfer
The longer registered term needs online registration within 60 days of installation; a unit that isn’t registered in time gets the base term (5 years).
Florida residents: the warranty says that beginning July 1, 2024, failing to register doesn’t diminish warranty rights or decrease the warranty length.
Don’t assume the dealer registered the unit: Trane advises asking, because the registered term is only available within 60 days of installation.

If you bought the house: the registered warranty transfers to you if the transfer is made within 90 days of closing and Trane’s one-time transfer fee is paid. The base warranty stays with the unit with no fee.

In Florida, Trane’s warranty also says that when a home with the system is sold on or after July 1, 2024, the manufacturer’s limited warranty is still in effect.
What’s covered and what isn’t
Covered
Parts that fail from a manufacturing defect under normal use and maintenance: Trane furnishes the replacement part, without charge for the part only.
Single-phase models such as 4TTR, 5TTR and 4TTL: compressor, outdoor coil and parts for 5 years, or 10 years registered.
Models such as 4TTX, 5TTX, 4TTV and 5TTV: 5 years, or with registration 12 years on the compressor and 10 years on the outdoor coil and parts.
Residential 3-phase models (4TTA, 5TTA and others up to 5 tons): 5 years, or 10 years registered.
Not covered
Labor, including diagnostic calls and removing and reinstalling the unit or parts, plus shipping for replacement parts.
Refrigerant, air filters, refrigerant line sets and belts.
Damage from improper installation, maintenance or operation, from fire, water, storms or lightning, and from a corrosive atmosphere such as salt.
Keeping it valid
The unit must be installed, operated and maintained by a licensed HVAC service provider following Trane’s instructions, and Trane may ask for written proof of preventive maintenance.
Repairs have to use authorized service parts and a licensed service provider.
The outdoor unit must be part of an AHRI-rated, matched system (or otherwise approved by Trane).
Units bought uninstalled, whether direct, online or at auction, aren’t covered, and neither are units moved from where they were originally installed.
Unapproved, contaminated or counterfeit refrigerant, or refrigerant additives such as dyes, void the warranty.

Common questions
Do I have to register my Trane AC in Florida?
Trane’s current warranty says that for Florida residents, beginning July 1, 2024, not registering doesn’t reduce warranty rights or shorten the warranty. Everywhere else, the registered term needs online registration within 60 days of installation.
Does the Trane warranty cover labor?
No. Trane’s outdoor-unit warranty covers parts only and excludes labor costs, including diagnostic calls.
Does a Trane warranty transfer when I buy a house?
The base warranty stays with the unit. The registered warranty transfers if it’s done within 90 days of closing and the transfer fee is paid, and in Florida Trane’s warranty says a home sale on or after July 1, 2024 leaves the warranty in effect.
