Rheem AC Warranty: What’s Covered and How to Check Yours
Rheem’s Classic RA13NZ and RA14AZ air conditioners carry 10 years of parts coverage with registration, and the Classic Plus RA16AZ and Prestige RA18AZ add a 10-year conditional unit replacement that also requires registration. In Florida, units installed on or after April 1, 2024 get the longest coverage offered on the model’s limited parts warranty, whether or not they’re registered.

How to check yours
Have the model number, serial number and installation date ready, then look the unit up with Rheem.
The “Look up a Rheem warranty” button on this page opens Rheem’s own online warranty lookup. It asks for the serial number, the homeowner’s last name and the state; to download the warranty certificate, you enter the last name and postal code.
A split system carries two model and serial tags. If the numbers aren’t on your original warranty or sales invoice, Rheem’s model and serial number page has photos and diagrams to help you locate them.

For warranty service, report the failure promptly to the installing contractor, who gets the replacement part through a Rheem distributor; if that contractor isn’t available, any local contractor handling Rheem products can help.
Registration and transfer
Florida owners don’t need to register: Rheem says that from July 1, 2024, its warranty can’t be conditioned on registration in Florida, and its warranty card says not registering doesn’t diminish warranty rights or decrease the warranty length.

Rheem’s Florida update describes the law as applying when the equipment is installed by a contractor licensed by Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Units installed in Florida before April 1, 2024 keep their original installed coverage, and units eligible for registration from April 1 to June 30, 2024 were grandfathered into the new policy.

Outside Florida, Rheem’s conditional (registered) terms require registration within 90 days of original installation or of closing on the home.
On Rheem’s Select-series card (WA and WP models), the conditional terms also require, unless state law provides otherwise, an owner-occupied single-family home, the original purchaser and the original installation location.

What’s covered and what isn’t
Covered
Any part of the covered equipment that fails from a defect in materials or workmanship in normal residential use: Rheem repairs or replaces it at its option, and the replacement is covered for the rest of the original period.
Classic models such as the RA13NZ and RA14AZ: 10 years of parts coverage with registration.

The Prestige RA18AZ and the Classic Plus RA16AZ: 10 years of parts and a 10-year conditional unit replacement, with registration.

Not covered
Labor, unless state law provides otherwise: you pay for it unless you have a labor service agreement with your contractor.

Shipping replacement parts from the factory to the distributor and on to your home, and shipping the failed part back.
Damage from improper installation, operation or maintenance, and from misuse, accident or a contaminated or corrosive atmosphere.
Keeping it valid
Have the unit installed, operated and maintained as Rheem’s instructions say: damage or failure from not doing so isn’t covered.
Buy through a contractor: equipment sold to the consumer over the internet or an auction website isn’t covered without an in-person site visit, inspection and installation by a qualified professional.

The installation must be residential, not commercial.
Coverage doesn’t follow a unit moved from where it was originally installed.
Registration is withdrawn for a system installed in conflict with codes or laws, and Rheem asks you to keep the installation invoice.

Common questions
Do I have to register my Rheem AC in Florida?

Does a Rheem warranty transfer when I buy a house?
In Florida, Rheem says the warranty applies to the property, not the homeowner, and that the law requires it to transfer on sale of the home regardless of registration. Elsewhere, Rheem’s Select-series card (WA and WP models) requires the original purchaser still to own the unit for its registered terms, unless state law provides otherwise.

How do I look up my Rheem AC’s warranty?
Rheem’s online lookup asks for the serial number, the homeowner’s last name and the state. A split system has two model and serial tags, and the numbers may also be on your original warranty or sales invoice.
