Carrier AC Warranty: What’s Covered and How to Check Yours

Carrier’s warranty for air conditioners and heat pumps with Puron Advance (R-454B) refrigerant covers parts and the compressor for 10 years if the unit is registered within 90 days of installation, and 5 years if it isn’t. Where the law doesn’t allow warranty benefits to depend on registration, Carrier applies the 10-year term without it; its documents name California and Quebec, not Florida.

How to check yours

Have the model number, serial number and installation date ready, then look the unit up with Carrier.

  1. Carrier’s online warranty lookup asks for the serial number and whether you’re the original purchaser, and shows the general parts warranties on record.

  2. The serial number is on the rating plate sticker: on an air conditioner or heat pump, on the back of the outdoor unit near the service valve connections.

  3. Have the installation date ready: coverage starts on the day of original installation (the day you bought a newly built home from the builder), and if that can’t be verified it starts 90 days after the unit was made.

Common questions

Do I have to register my Carrier AC in Florida?

Carrier’s documents name California and Quebec as places where registration isn’t required and don’t list Florida. Registering within 90 days of installation secures the 10-year term; otherwise the standard 5-year parts warranty applies.

Does the Carrier warranty cover labor?

Not the standard one: Carrier’s certificate excludes labor and the other costs of diagnosing and repairing. The one exception is the Consumer Choice option of 5 years of parts plus 3 years of labor, chosen at registration through a participating dealer.

Does a Carrier warranty transfer when I buy a house?

A later owner gets 5 years on parts and the compressor without registering. Coverage only applies while the unit stays where it was first installed.

Where is the serial number on my Carrier AC?

On the rating plate sticker on the back of the outdoor unit, near the service valve connections. Carrier’s lookup takes that serial number.
